Minister Urges Responsible Journalism on World Press Freedom Day

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, SODA Zhemu, has called on journalists to uphold professionalism and responsible reporting as Zimbabwe joins the world in commemorating World Press Freedom Day.

"Media freedom is a cornerstone of any democratic society, but it must be exercised with a strong sense of responsibility, accuracy, and integrity," he said. "Journalists must remain committed to ethical reporting and avoid spreading misinformation that can undermine national unity."

He noted Zimbabwe has made significant strides in reforming the media landscape, but more work is needed to ensure a conducive environment for journalists.

"The Second Republic has taken deliberate steps to open up the media space, including licensing new players and aligning laws with the Constitution. We remain committed to further reforms promoting freedom and accountability in the media sector," Zhemu added.

The minister urged media practitioners to embrace digital transformation and adapt to the evolving information landscape while maintaining credibility and public trust.
