ZANU PF Politburo member and Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, says the proposed term extension will benefit sitting Members of Parliament and councillors, allowing them to focus on development projects without the distraction of early elections.

Addressing the party's Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Mashonaland West Province, Ziyambi stated that perpetual election mode hinders progress, citing instances where elected officials settle for only a year before jostling for positions begins, affecting projects and development.

"We want to extend their term, not a new term, but just an extension, so those using money to jostle don't waste their time and resources," Ziyambi said.

This move aims to stabilize the nation, create policy certainty and enable government to focus on implementing programmes that improve citizens' lives.
