Zimbabwe’s Acting President Opens 27th Mine Entra Expo, Spotlighting Responsible Mining and Industrial Growth

The 27th edition of the Mining, Engineering, and Transport (Mine Entra) Expo officially kicked off today in Bulawayo, with Zimbabwe’s Acting President, Hon. Gen. (Rtd) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, leading the opening ceremony at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre. The event, running under the theme “Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining,” brings together over 240 exhibitors from the mining, engineering, transport, and construction sectors, aiming to foster partnerships and address key industry challenges.

Dr. Chiwenga toured the diverse exhibitions, showcasing Zimbabwe’s mining innovations and industrial collaborations, underscoring the nation’s commitment to achieving the developmental goals outlined in #Vision2030. The expo serves as a vital platform for networking and advancing Zimbabwe’s mining prowess.

First-time exhibitor Mr. Byron Meyer, Managing Director of E4Engineering, praised the event for enabling connections with prospective business partners, highlighting its role in strengthening industrial collaboration. Similarly, Mr. Felix Kuvenguhwa, Country Manager of Barloworld Zimbabwe, noted how Mine Entra has evolved into a critical forum for face-to-face industry engagement, accelerating collaborative efforts to grow Zimbabwe’s mining sector.

Hon. Minister of Mines and Mining Development, W. Chitando, emphasized the government's commitment to responsible mining. He announced Zimbabwe’s Responsible Mining Initiative, now in Phase 1 enforcement of existing laws, with Phase 2 poised to enhance regulations and penalties. Minister Chitando also stressed the importance of local manufacturing and value addition, celebrating the sector’s rapid growth and the upcoming production of lithium sulphate in early 2026 as a milestone in beneficiation efforts.

As the Mine Entra Expo continues through Friday, industry players remain optimistic about the event’s role in sustaining Zimbabwe’s mining future, pushing beyond extraction towards a more innovative and responsible mining landscape.
