The government is fast-tracking the Muzarabani Oil and Gas project, a key move for national energy security and import substitution amidst volatile global markets and Middle East tensions. The project in the Cahora Bassa Basin has reached a critical point with the finalisation of the Petroleum Production Sharing Agreement (PPSA) .

Deputy Minister Engineer Caleb Makwiranzou said extensive seismic surveys and drilling have confirmed hydrocarbons, with development efforts now focused on the Musuma 1 site. An inter-ministerial task force is supervising the project's acceleration, aiming to boost energy security and industrialisation.

The project could position Zimbabwe as a regional energy hub, leveraging Mozambique's gas infrastructure and creating joint venture opportunities under the Southern African Power Pool.
