The Government has allocated ZiG15.7 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of over 44,000 kilometres of road network under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2) this year, exceeding the initial target of 11,250km. ERRP2 is being implemented by the Department of Roads, local authorities, and the District Development Fund, covering construction and rehabilitation of roads, asphalt overlay, pothole patching, resealing, and gravelling in both urban and rural areas.  https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaJBte43bbV50PSJqU20

The programme also includes bridge reconstruction and roadside maintenance nationwide. According to the 2026 Zimbabwe Infrastructure Investment Programme, the Government prioritised the completion of the Trabelas Interchange, commissioned by President Mnangagwa in May, while also completing numerous road and bridge projects countrywide.

The report shows that 242km of roads were resealed and overlaid, 1,053km were gravelled or re-gravelled, and 1,317km underwent grading and spot gravelling. Pothole patching was carried out on 11,755km of roads, bush and verge clearing covered more than 9,000km, and 21,000km of drainage construction and lining was completed.

An amount of ZiG15.7 billion was spent under ERRP2 in 2025, with ZiG12.7 billion coming from the national budget and ZiG3 billion disbursed by ZINARA. The Trabelas Interchange, featuring 15 bridges, eased congestion and reduced accident risks at the former Mbudzi Roundabout while improving movement along a key regional trade corridor.

Government said investment in transport infrastructure will continue in 2026, with ZiG3 billion allocated to the transport sector. Of this, ZiG2.9 billion is earmarked for road development and ZiG140.8 million for aviation. Priority will be given to major arterial roads that support regional, international, and domestic trade.
