Zambia has been dealt a heavy blow just three days before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after their coach, Moses Sichone, was deemed ineligible by CAF to take charge at the tournament. Sichone, who holds a UEFA A coaching license, falls short of the latest CAF regulations, which state that all coaches involved in CAF national team competitions and CAF club tournaments must possess either a CAF A or a Pro license.
Sichone was appointed Zambia coach in November 2025, replacing former Chelsea and Israeli coach Avram Grant. The Zambia Football Association is now racing against time to find a replacement before their opening match against Mali on Monday. Zambia is in the same group as hosts Morocco and Comoros.
