Uganda has announced visa-free entry for citizens of at least 40 countries in the region, in a major move expected to boost tourism, trade and regional integration agreement. This move was announced on 14 March 2026.
Under the new policy, eligible travelers will be allowed to enter Uganda and stay for up to three months without applying for a visa. They will only need a valid passport, while citizens from the East African Community (EAC) can also use an interstate pass in line with regional integration agreements.Zimbabwe is among the African countries whose citizens will benefit from the new arrangement.
Other African nations on the list include Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, DR Congo, Eritrea, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Eswatini, Tanzania and Zambia.
Uganda has also included several countries outside Africa, such as Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland and Malaysia, among others.
The Ugandan government says the decision is meant to make travel easier, strengthen ties with other nations and support the growth of tourism and business.
The visa-free policy is expected to make Uganda more accessible to visitors and investors, while also encouraging smoother movement across borders, especially within Africa.
The move comes at a time when more African countries are working towards reducing travel restrictions as part of wider efforts to promote regional cooperation and economic growth.
For Zimbabweans and other eligible travelers, the new policy could make visiting Uganda for business, leisure or family reasons simpler and more affordable.
