Commuters in Harare and Bulawayo woke up to higher transport fares this morning after kombi and taxi drivers increased prices by up to 50 percent.

Drivers raised the fares, citing the rising cost of fuel. Passengers who paid US$1 yesterday are now paying about US$1.50 or more to reach work or school.

Drivers say they are struggling to buy fuel and keep their vehicles on the road. They argue that the increase is necessary for them to continue operating. However, many commuters are unhappy with the sudden change. Some passengers have taken to social media to complain that the cost of living is becoming too high. Many say the fare increase is making it harder for them to travel to work and school.

Authorities and transport operators are expected to discuss the situation as commuters and drivers continue to face challenges caused by rising costs.
