Manchester United suffered a damaging 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, intensifying the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim. The Bees took an early lead when Igor Thiago broke the deadlock in the 8th minute, doubling their advantage by the 20th minute with a second goal. Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko pulled one back in the 26th minute, but hopes were dashed when goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved a crucial Bruno Fernandes penalty after Nathan Collins fouled Bryan Mbeuma inside the box.
The match was sealed in stoppage time by a late strike from Mathias Jensen, leaving Amorim’s side struggling to find form. The defeat follows Brentford’s recent win at Old Trafford against Chelsea, adding to the mounting challenges for the Portuguese manager.
According to Miguel Delaney, chief football writer for The Independent, Amorim is reportedly not enjoying his role at Old Trafford, with speculation mounting about his future amid the club’s interest in other managers like Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.
Reflecting on the loss, Amorim said, “We didn’t control the game. We played Brentford’s game really confused. Second balls, first balls, set pieces. All the crucial moments went against us. It’s tough to lose again, but we have to focus on the next one.”
Manchester United will look to bounce back when they host Sunderland in their upcoming fixture, with the manager under increasing scrutiny to deliver positive results and ease the pressure on his position.
