Harare – The Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre was ablaze with poetic brilliance on the evening of 20 November 2025, as Royalty & Rhymes , a show curated by Mambo Guramatunhu, brought together some of Zimbabwe’s most dynamic voices in spoken word and performance poetry.

Under the theme A Coronation of Poetic Brilliance, the event showcased a diverse and powerful lineup that included Thee Ammartian, Mambo Guramatunhu, Linda Gabriel and Superlady. The poets captivated the audience with emotionally charged performances, blending themes of heritage, identity and resilience.

The show opened with a rich cultural display by guest performers Mavunela and Calley, whose heritage-infused act set a high bar for the night. Their performance served as a vibrant reminder of the importance of cultural preservation in contemporary art.

Guest of honour, Hon. James kawawa, delivered an empowering speech, applauding the young creatives and cautioning against the dangers of substance abuse. “Kana wakazvitanga chizvirirenga,” he said, encouraging artists to stay grounded in their purpose and values.

The evening was not just a performance but a celebration of Zimbabwean artistry and youthful excellence. With tickets ranging from 5 to10, the venue was packed with poetry lovers, supporters and fellow creatives, all moved by the raw and regal power of words.

“Royalty & Rhymes” affirmed poetry’s enduring role as a force for unity, introspection and cultural pride an unforgettable night for Zimbabwean literature and performance art.
