Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs have voted to increase the number of teams in the top-flight league from 18 to 20, in line with a proposal from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). The clubs, meeting in Harare today, unanimously endorsed the ZIFA proposal as a 'stabilisation project', aimed at reviving the local game.

The decision by the PSL clubs means that no team will be relegated this season. The four promoted teams - FC Hunters, Hardrock, Agama, and Bulawayo Chiefs - will increase the number of teams in the league to 22 during the 2026 season, with six teams set to be relegated. The teams will be trimmed to 20 for the 2027 season, with modalities being worked out depending on whether the proposal for a national first division one league is passed.

ZIFA is engaging football stakeholders on the reforms of local football.
