ZESA Holdings has assured Zimbabweans that there will be no planned electricity shutdowns during the festive season, promising a stable power supply as the country enters a period of heightened travel, domestic tourism, and national celebrations. ZESA Holdings General Manager George Manyanya said the power utility has put in place measures to ensure continuity of supply, building on improvements recorded in electricity generation and distribution during 2025.

"As we enter the festive season, we want to assure our customers that there will be no planned shutdowns during this period," Manyanya said. "While the year had its challenges, the support and resilience of stakeholders enabled us to implement mitigation measures that have resulted in improved power generation and supply compared to previous years."

Manyanya attributed the positive outlook to improved availability at Hwange Power Station Units 1 and 2 and the Kariba Power Station, supported by generation from independent power producers and additional imports secured through the Southern African Power Pool. "Looking at the power supply outlook for this festive period, we are projecting a stable environment with minimal system constraints and load management," he said. "These interventions are expected to significantly reduce the supply shortfall."

However, Manyanya cautioned that while no planned shutdowns are anticipated, the system remains vulnerable to unforeseen faults. "We cannot rule out emergencies arising from technical faults or weather-related incidents," he said. "But our technical teams will be on standby throughout the festive season, and our 24-hour national contact centre will remain fully operational to attend to all reports." Manyanya added, "Our focus is to ensure that households, businesses, and critical services have power during this important period."

ZESA wishes the nation a peaceful festive season and a Merry Christmas, powered by a prosperous new year.
