The suspect, Nhlalo Darlington Baloyi (37), an artisanal miner, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on 13 March 2026 after allegedly being on the run since 2 March.

He is accused of murdering Patricia Nyathi (32) in a brutal attack that reportedly took place in front of her 13-year-old daughter. Police took the suspect to the crime scene for indications, but the process was delayed when an aggrieved crowd gathered at the scene.

The murder, which occurred about two weeks ago, has left the Mkoba 4 community in shock, with residents breaking their silence over what they describe as a growing number of GBV (Gender-Based Violence) cases in the neighborhood.

Community members say the killing has exposed serious safety concerns and are calling for stronger measures to protect women and families. “This is painful and frightening for the whole community,” one resident said. “We need authorities to act before more lives are lost.”

Residents are also urging the police, local leaders, and social organizations to step up awareness campaigns and strengthen intervention mechanisms to address domestic violence and other forms of abuse.

The case remains under police investigation.
