Kylian Mbappé has opened up about France’s heartbreaking loss to Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, describing the experience as painful and unforgettable   despite his historic hat-trick and Golden Boot win.

In an interview with Movistar, the French superstar admitted the personal accolades offer little comfort. “No, it doesn’t give me peace of mind,” he said. “Because when that happens, you say, ‘I should have scored four goals, not three.’ And that hurts much more.”

Mbappé’s performance in the final was legendary, becoming only the second player in history to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final. But the loss still stings.

Reflecting on Argentina’s victory, he was candid in his assessment: “Argentina deserved to win. They were better throughout the whole match.”

While France had moments of dominance, Mbappé said the Albiceleste’s overall control made them worthy champions. “You don’t think about scoring in a final, but about winning it… It makes you sad, but you can’t forget it, because 2026 is coming and we don’t want to end up sad again.”

With his sights set on the next World Cup, Mbappé’s hunger for redemption remains as sharp as ever.
