Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has spoken candidly about the challenges of managing mental health amid the pressures of professional football. Reflecting on his younger years, Bellingham revealed how he used to search his name on Twitter and read all kinds of comments — both positive and negative.

“Even positive comments didn’t matter, because why let people who don’t know me decide how I see myself?” Bellingham said. He admitted that negative remarks affected him deeply and ultimately took a toll on his mental wellbeing. “I realized I was damaging my own mental health by reading them, so I stopped.”

The 22-year-old also shared moments of vulnerability, where self-doubt crept in despite his public image as a strong athlete. “I tried to hide behind the image of the strong athlete, but the truth is I need people to talk to, just like everyone else,” he confessed.

Bellingham’s openness sheds light on the often unseen pressures athletes face and highlights the importance of addressing mental health in sports.
