Today, Harare is filled with solemn respect as three national heroes, Herbert Chingono, Cosmas Chiringa, and Elson Mupamawonde, are laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre. Families, government officials, and citizens line the streets to witness the funeral procession. The heroes were declared national heroes for their outstanding service to Zimbabwe. The atmosphere is heavy with sorrow but also pride, as the nation gathers to pay tribute to those who gave everything for their country.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over the ceremony and addressed the nation, saying:

“The nation requires faithful servicemen and women who are vigilant. Let us honour the legacy of our heroes by serving this nation with dedication and courage.”

Military honours echoed across the shrine as people bowed their heads in respect.

The president went on to say:

“Today is a day to remember, reflect, and be inspired by the bravery and commitment of Zimbabwe’s fallen heroes.”
