A brazen scam has hit a Harare chicken farmer, Lucia Nyamayaro, who lost 250 chickens valued at US$1,500 after being duped by two men posing as genuine buyers.
The incident highlights the growing concern over online scams and the need for vigilance when dealing with strangers.
According to reports, Nyamayaro had advertised her dressed chickens on Facebook, which caught the attention of a man claiming to be a customer.
After agreeing to meet at Strathaven shops, the suspect arrived with two accomplices in a Toyota Hilux with registration number AFT 7625.
The trio convincingly played their roles, handing over a bundle of cash that seemed legitimate.
However, upon closer inspection, Nyamayaro discovered she'd been handed a bundle of worthless old Zimbabwe dollar bills wrapped around a single US$20 note.
The police are now investigating the case, and anyone with information about the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station or call Nyamayaro on 0772972380.
