Manchester City's unbeaten home streak in the Champions League came to a shocking end as Bayer Leverkusen stormed to a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium. 

The Citizens, missing key players like Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias were outplayed by the German side, who capitalized on City's defensive vulnerabilities 

Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick scored the goals for Leverkusen, with Grimaldo's strike coming from a well-worked counter-attack and Schick's header doubling the lead.

City's attempts to claw back were thwarted by Leverkusen's solid defense and goalkeeper Mark Flekken's heroics making nine saves to secure a very  clean sheet.

This defeat marks City's first league phase loss since 2018 and drops them to sixth place in the table.

Pep Guardiola's decision to rest key players backfired and the team will need to regroup quickly to bounce back from this setback 

Leverkusen's victory was a statement of intent and City will need to respond strongly if they want to stay in contention.
