Veron Mosengo-Omba, the general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has resigned amid a tumultuous time for African football. His departure follows the fallout over CAF's decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and postpone the women's tournament .


Mosengo-Omba, 66, cited his desire to retire with peace of mind, saying, "Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraint, leaving the CAF more prosperous than ever" .   Follow our Whatsapp Channel For Instant Updates

The controversy surrounds Senegal's 1-0 win over Morocco in the AFCON final, which was later overturned, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory. Senegal has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Mosengo-Omba faced criticism for staying on past CAF's mandatory retirement age of 63 and allegations of creating a toxic work environment, though an investigation cleared him .

CAF's competitions director, Samson Adamu, will serve as acting general secretary.
