The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be held every four years starting from 2028, replacing its current biennial format. A new annual tournament, the African Nations League, will also be introduced. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe revealed the changes in Morocco on Saturday, ahead of the 2025 AFCON, which kicks off with Comoros facing the hosts on Sunday. Motsepe clarified that AFCON will still take place in 2027 and 2028 before switching to the four-year cycle, with the next edition scheduled for 2032. The winner's prize money will increase from $7 million to $10 million. The African Nations League will be played during FIFA windows in September and October, with the finals in November each year. The teams will be divided into four regions, with six teams in the North region and 16 teams in each of the other three regions.
