Bulilima District recently held belated commemorations of the National Tree Planting Day, promoting environmental conservation and sustainability. The event, held on the first Saturday of December, encourages citizens to plant and conserve trees to combat deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss .


In Bulilima District, 100 trees were planted at Bezu Secondary School and surrounding areas, including fruit trees, ornamental plants, and the Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana), known for its medicinal uses and role in preventing soil erosion. The tree was chosen as the tree of the year, highlighting the need for conservation .

Importance of Tree Planting

Bulilima Constituency legislator Cde Dingumuzi Phuti, represented by Zanu-PF central committee member Cde Charity Ndlovu, emphasized the importance of tree planting and urged communities to support the Forestry Commission in enforcing forest protection laws. Headman Bhidi stressed the need for sustainable forest management and institutional collaboration to address deforestation .

Future Plans

Bulilima District Forest Extension Officer Ms. Faith Ngute said they plan to plant more trees throughout the season and invited partners to support the tree planting program. She expressed gratitude to partners such as SAFIRE, RDC, and MoPSE for their instrumental role in the program's success .

Bulilima RDC CEO Mr. Billiati Mulauzi hailed the program and pledged to support the tree planting exercise through the natural resources and conservation department.
