A total of 5,600 families in Sanyati Constituency received food hampers recently from their legislator, Dr. Polite Kambamura, as part of celebrating the festive season with the community. Dr. Kambamura, who is also the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, provided farming inputs to the vulnerable families. Beneficiaries who are drawn from all 28 political administration districts in Sanyati said the assistance came at a time when they were reeling from the negative impacts of the 2024/25 bad summer season, where they failed to salvage a meaningful harvest due to poor rains and high temperatures.

The move, they said, dovetailed with President Mnangagwa's call to leave no place or person behind. "We want to thank the President, through his Minister Honourable Kambamura, for remembering us here in Sanyati," said Mrs. Dija Hwangwa, one of the beneficiaries from Chegutu Six. Her area borders Chegutu Game Park, where elephants, buffalo, and other wild animals destroy their crops yearly.

Another beneficiary and widow, Mrs. Sharai Machingura, said she appreciated Dr. Kambamura and the leadership for remembering the elderly and the vulnerable with food items. A 70-year-old Philimon Mandikisa said due to his old age, he was unable to fend for his family, hence the handover was "a timely gesture which has come at a time when we needed it the most. This is a different Christmas for me."

Sanyati Rural District Council chairperson Mr. Stanford Chawombezvi said the initiative complements the council's efforts of providing for disadvantaged families. He also noted that the introduction of more than 28 Village Business Units (VBUs) had helped the families.

"We are grateful to Dr. Kambamura and our President for empowering communities. We are receiving all government programmes which include Pfumvudza inputs, fertilizers, chemicals, and most recently Village Business Units, all being efforts to eradicate poverty, especially in hard-to-reach communities like Sanyati," he said.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Minister Kambamura said the distribution was part of efforts to spread festive cheer and support vulnerable households, in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's call to leave no one and no place behind. "As Sanyati, we stand guided by that mantra. Today, our elders and the vulnerable go home with food, respect, and dignity," he said.
