A two-month-old baby girl was snatched away by an unknown individual in Gweru Central Business District (CBD) on Saturday afternoon. According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred when the baby's mother, Faith Jakaza (26), had just finished breastfeeding her daughter.

"She briefly left the baby on the lap of the baby's six-year-old sister, going to buy bananas from a nearby vendor," Insp Mahoko said. "On turning back after a few minutes, the mother discovered the elder daughter no longer had the baby, saying the baby had been snatched away."

Jakaza reportedly shouted for help while frantically searching for her baby. The police have launched an investigation and are appealing for any information that can help locate the culprit and recover the baby.

"We also advise mothers or persons who have custody of babies and children to always keep them under close monitoring," said Insp Mahoko. Anyone with information is urged to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.
